The Center for Earth and Natural Resource Sciences (CENRS)
The Center for Earth and Natural Resource Sciences (CENRS) is an autonomous, multidisciplinary research institution based in Rwanda. Its headquarters are located in Mukamira, Nyabihu District, Northern Rwanda, with a community service branch in Nyabugogo, Kigali City. CENRS was formally established on 3 September 2025 under Rwandan Law No. 007/2021 of 5 February 2021.
CENRS conducts fundamental and applied research in environmental systems, Earth processes, natural hazards, natural resources, and technologies for pollution control and environmental remediation. It also provides research-based services to local communities. CENRS is currently focused exclusively on research and community services and does not engage in teaching activities.
CENRS maintains regular exchanges and close research collaborations with leading research institutions in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Japan, the Netherlands, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
